The Kapha dosha can keep you grounded

It can also help you stay connected to yourself.

The Kapha dosha, in its essence, is soft, stable, loving, understanding, sensitive, and grounded. In balance, it feels secure, calm, and empathetic. We all have some portion of the Kapha dosha and the element of earth. It is important and valuable to unite with it regularly to preserve your foundation and the connection to yourself.

The Kapha dosha’s weak point is that its energy and inner fire are low. This means that in imbalance, lethargy, inability to change, introversion, need for control and dependence can arise. Physical signs of imbalance are dullness, laziness, heavy mind and emotions, any form of allergy and feeling unmotivated.

Stay connected to your roots

To bring the Kapha dosha into balance, you need to add opposing qualities and prioritize increasing the fire. You can do this by:

Kapha out of balance can lead to laziness

The best start of the day for the Kapha:

⏰ wake up and get up on time, preferably at 6 am

🚶‍♀️ take a walk at a moderate pace, before having a light breakfast

🥗 during the day, eat in moderation and avoid all mucus-forming foods

To avoid inertia in both thoughts and emotions, the Kapha dosha needs variety, inspiration, and to awaken creativity.

🌶 add strong spices and herbs to your food, to stimulate the inner fire, which is low in its base and gets weaker in imbalance

🚰 drink warm water, preferably with fresh ginger and lemon

🏋🏻‍♂️ setting good exercise habits and introducing everyday exercise such as using the stairs instead of the elevator

The fire can also raise body temperature and heat in the stomach, which stimulates digestion.

Variety, inspiration and creativity

Exercising and moving the body is important for everyone, and vital for the Kapha dosha’s health and well-being

Let the exercise be vigorous and flowing. Exercise gives the Kapha dosha warmth, the opportunity to sweat and increased breathing capacity which helps it clear excess mucus and waste products more easily. Round off the evening with a long walk, preferably at a gentle pace. Drink warm ginger water followed by fire breathing at a leisurely pace, before bedtime.

In our society and the way we live today, the Pitta (fire) and Vata doshas (air) are often the ones that are encouraged because they are active energies.

So, my recommendation is:

Connect with your Kapha on a regular basis. It is your base and foundation and can help you stay grounded and centered in life.
